We transform how businesses attract, train and engage the next generation of talent.

Powering Futures is a facilitator between business and education. Connecting employers with future employees and working towards the shared goals of prosperity and sustainability.

Our mission is to equip a million young people by 2030 with the skills and behaviours they need to thrive in the workplace and Power their Future.

Since conception just nearly 3 years ago, there are now over 100 Scottish Secondary Schools registered to start the next Education Challenge Programme in August ‘24.

Our workplace talent development programmes for 16-24-year-olds are delivering significant outputs for them and their businesses, which has led to Powering Futures being selected as one of the UK nominees for the prestigious global Earthshot Prize.

Powering Futures believes that future generations should prosper, and we want to change lives.

To achieve it, we need a world which is both economically active and environmentally sustainable.

While delivery of the Programme is slightly different in businesses and schools, the outcome is the same: participants who complete the Programme receive an accredited qualification and are empowered to become sustainability-enabled problem solvers with the skills to generate implementable solutions.

This allows them to develop further in their career or wherever they choose to go after school. They can Power their Futures.

In business or schools, young people take on real-world sustainability challenges, set by partner businesses.

Throughout the Challenge Programme, they research and collaborate on a solution, and present it to a panel of industry judges. All while they are developing their knowledge and skills, such as teamwork, problem-solving, critical thinking and resilience - skills they need in the future.

Hear from people we’ve worked with

“The 14-week Challenge programme has allowed the apprentices to develop and connect with each other, as well as with experts throughout our organisation. This will bring benefits to them and us for years to come – and proves that sustainability-focused solutions are not just good for the planet, but for the bottom line too.”

- Peter Farrer, Chief Operating Officer, Scottish Water

“Scotland needs to start building the work force of the future now. That is exactly what we want to support with this programme.

We’re so proud to be part of this exciting collaboration that aims to empower and inspire young people into low carbon careers where they can really make a difference.”

- Eoghan Maguire, Director of Heat Networks Scotland, Vattenfall

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Powering Futures as this challenge aligns perfectly with both of these areas. It will support the development of our apprentices by immersing them in a world of creativity and innovation as well as giving them the opportunity to have a meaningful impact on our decarbonisation efforts.”
